Imagine creating innovative prosthetics, designing self-driving cars, or building the next Mars rover. In TMU’s Mechanical Engineering degree program, you’ll learn how to use engineering science and modern technology to address local and global challenges.
In first year, you’ll start with engineering fundamentals, like calculus and physics. As you progress, you’ll develop a specialized skill set studying manufacturing and fabrication, thermal and fluid processes, mechanics, and machine design. In fourth year, you’ll work with teammates on a Capstone design project to address a real-world challenge and present your solution to industry experts.
With an optional paid co-op and lab-integrated learning, you’ll have many opportunities to get hands-on with renewable energy, advanced materials, robotics and manufacturing processes.

Academic requirements
This is a Grades-Only program. Admission decisions for Grades-Only programs are based on academic performance.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program-specific requirements.
Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:
- English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
- Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
- Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
- Physics (SPH4U)
- Chemistry (SCH4U)
- Note: The grades required in the subject prerequisites (normally 70%) will be determined subject to competition.
