Want to make science fiction a reality? In TMU’s Mechatronics Engineering degree program, you’ll combine mechanical, electronics, and computer engineering skills to develop intelligent machines that help people thrive. 

In first year, you’ll start with engineering fundamentals, like calculus and physics. As you progress, you’ll study advanced topics such as modern control theory, microcontrollers and robotics. In fourth year, you’ll address a real-world challenge through a team capstone design project and present your solution to industry experts.

You’ll also work in the lab as part of your coursework, such as our Robotics, Mechatronics and Automation Laboratory, a leading research lab for almost 30 years. With an optional paid co-op, and student teams like Toronto MetRobotics, you’ll have many opportunities to get hands-on with mechatronics.

Accreditation: 

  • Accreditation from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board will be sought at the time of the first graduating class

Academic requirements

This is a Grades-Only program. Admission decisions for Grades-Only programs are based on academic performance.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program-specific requirements.

Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:

  • English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
  • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
  • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
  • Physics (SPH4U)
  • Chemistry (SCH4U)
  • Note: The grades required in the subject prerequisites (normally 70%) will be determined subject to competition.
