The study of politics and governance questions the role of government in society and how it relates to social justice, democracy, citizenship and human rights; who decides local, national and international policy; and how decisions are reached and conflicts resolved.
This program offers: in-class simulations, community projects, an optional co-op, research design and analysis, field experience and placement opportunities and international exchange programs. You’ll graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to critically analyze and address our social, economic, environmental and governmental challenges, and help society navigate our increasingly complex world.
The Politics and Governance degree program is one of 10 bachelor of arts programs that share a one-year foundation. Double major options available after first year: Politics and Governance and Criminology, Politics and Governance and History, or Politics and Governance and Sociology.

Academic requirements
This is a Grades-Only program. Admission decisions for Grades-Only programs are based on academic performance.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program specific requirements.
Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:
- A minimum grade of 70% or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)

Breaking down barriers for under-represented 2SLGBTQI+ communities and diversifying Canadian politics
Politics and Governance alumna Kristina Kisin is the Executive Director of ProudPolitics Canada, a non-partisan organization dedicated to diversifying Canadian politics and supporting 2SLGBTQI+ leaders running for public office. She began as an intern in 2021 and has since taken on roles in research, event coordination and program management, leading numerous research and outreach projects, collaborating with progressive partners and contributing to the organization’s growth.
