This one-year entry option allows you to explore program areas in the humanities and social sciences, and discover your passions and strengths before choosing a major or double major program.
First-year classes
- Explore your program transfer options by choosing introductory courses in Criminology, English, Environment and Urban Sustainability, Geographic Analysis Co-op, History, Language and Intercultural Relations, Philosophy, Politics and Governance, Psychology and Sociology.
- Enroll in two required courses: Academic Writing and Research, and Critical Thinking.
- Choose electives from a wide range of areas including news and film studies, law, business and natural sciences – many of which can lead to a minor.
Program transfer
You must apply to transfer to one of the 10 programs listed under the program transfer options, or to any of the nine double major programs, by February of your second semester. All of your completed courses will transfer to your new program. For program transfer requirements, refer to the Majors tab below.
Academic requirements
This is a Grades-Only program. Admission decisions for Grades-Only programs are based on academic performance.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program-specific requirements.
Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:
- A minimum grade of 70% or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
Undeclared Arts is an entry option only. By February of your second semester, you must indicate which one of the ten programs you wish to pursue. All program transfers are considered on a competitive basis and are subject to program capacity.

Program transfer options and eligibility
The program transfer options for Undeclared Arts students are: Criminology, English, Environment and Urban Sustainability, Geographic Analysis Co-op, History, Language and Intercultural Relations, Philosophy, Politics and Governance, Psychology and Sociology. Because these 10 programs share a common one-year foundation, all of the courses completed in Undeclared Arts are credited to the student's program of choice.
Eligibility:
- Students who have already decided which of the 10 programs they are interested in should apply to those programs directly and should consult the relevant pages of the Undergraduate Calendar for program details.
- Students who are completing, or have already completed post-secondary studies, must apply to one of the 10 programs (Criminology, English, Environment and Urban Sustainability, Geographic Analysis Co-op, History, Language and Intercultural Relations, Philosophy, Politics and Governance, Psychology and Sociology). Transfer credit/advanced standing cannot be granted for the Undeclared Arts option.
