With a mix of engaging social events and insightful academic workshops and summits, TMU has both fun and informative events on offer this October.

With the academic year now in full swing at TMU, we’re excited to present a range of engaging activities this October. Join in on celebrating Fall Pride, visit TMU’s Equity Showcase, enhance your financial literacy and much more. Explore the events listed below for more details. 

October 2 
Youth Mental Health Summit: Local and Global Connections and Perspectives (external link) 
Join us at the Youth Mental Health Summit to explore local and global perspectives on youth well-being and innovative mental health solutions. Hosted at TMU, this summit will convene experts, scholars and practitioners to exchange knowledge, discuss research findings and foster collaborative approaches to enhancing mental health and resilience among diverse youth populations. Seating is limited so register early (external link) 

October 8
Building Community Across our Universe-City
In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Wellbeing Week, you’re invited to join a screening of Across the Universe-City, a short film created by the Employees with Disabilities Community Network (EwDCN) in partnership with TMU’s own Cyrus Sunder-Singh. This event is hosted by the EwDCN and the Accessibility unit in the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI). After the screening, participate in a Q&A with the film’s creators.

October 8
Financial Literacy Workshop for International Students with BMO
Are you an international student, new or returning to TMU? Join our exclusive workshop tailored for you! Learn to navigate the complexities of personal finance, budgeting, and more with the expertise of representatives from BMO, and gain the knowledge and skills needed to achieve financial success. Register now to secure your spot.

October 9 
Equity Networks Showcase
All faculty and staff are invited to TMU’s Equity Networks Showcase at the SLC to help you find community and belonging on campus. Between 12 - 2 p.m., connect with the university’s 11 employee community networks, which offer members a range of support, resources and initiatives.

Visit the Equity Networks Showcase in the SLC, October 9. Whether you want to meet others who share your lived experience or learn from diverse perspectives, this event is an opportunity to find your people.

October 10 
Pride Activism: Student Sexual Health
Join the TMU School of Medicine, the Urban Health program and the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network to learn about the intersections of activism and sexual health in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The event will include a frank, open, informative, empowering and fun discussion about how activism and sexual health in the 2SLGBTQ+ community go hand in hand.

October 17
Virtual Spotlight: At the Intersection of Asian and 2SLGBTQ+ Identities with New Ho Queen
Organized by the Asian Faculty and Staff Community Network and the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network, this virtual spotlight will engage in a Q&A with New Ho Queen (external link)  co-directors Patrick Salvani and Raphael Sanchez. We’ll discuss the ways that space and community are being fostered for queer Asian pride and joy.  (google form) Registration is required (external link) .

October 23 
Canadian Economy in 2025: What to Expect for Growth and Interest Rates
Join us in warmly welcoming a distinguished guest, Benjamin Tal, deputy chief economist of CIBC World Markets Inc. He brings a wealth of knowledge and rich experiences to the students and friends of the Ted Rogers School for thought-provoking insights and discussion.

October 23 
Positive Skate
Join the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network for an afternoon social skate with 2SLGBTQ+ community members at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC). Allies are welcome!

October 24
DAS BASH: An Exhibition to Recall and Recast (external link) 
In 2024, TMU’s Department of Architectural Science celebrates 75+ years of architectural education; 50+ years of degree-granting; and 15+ years of graduate studies. The school is  (google form) collecting contributions (external link)  from students, faculty and staff for the DAS Bash Exhibition. Join us for the opening of the exhibition from 6 to 9 p.m.

Help the Department of Architectural Science celebrate its history at TMU by visiting a new exhibition opening on Oct. 24.

October 25 
Lecture by Canada Gairdner Momentum Award Laureate Dr. Meghan Azad
Join us at 1:00 p.m. for an insightful lecture from 2024 Canada Gairdner Momentum Award Laureate, Dr. Meghan Azad on Milk & Microbes: How Breastfeeding Shapes the Microbiome & Lifelong Health, followed by a Q&A and networking session. Registration is required (external link) 

October 29
Photo Dip: Exploring Queer Photography at the Image Centre
All 2SLGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff and allies are invited to join The Image Centre and the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network for Photo Dip: Queer Photographs from the Image Centre Collection. This is a one-hour, guided viewing and discussion of photographs highlighting the historical and contemporary representation of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.  (google form) Registration is required (external link) . October 31
Pink Libraries Tour: Day 1
A guided tour of the Libraries with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ materials and activities. Learn about search techniques using our Queer and Trans Research Guides, explore the Collaboratory and Immersion Studio, visit the Law Library and tour 2SLGBTQ+ collections unique to TMU at the Archives and Special Collections.
