Joanne McKee, CPA, CA, Chief Financial Officer

Reporting to the President, the chief financial officer (CFO) leads, directs and develops strategic and operational planning for the university’s consolidated financial services, reporting, investing, financing, procurement, research financial management and budgeting administration. The CFO is a key member and contributor to the university’s executive leadership team and the budget planning committee and also interacts and provides financial support and expertise to senior leaders, as well as to the Board of Governors' finance, audit, investment and pension committees.

Alongside an exceptionally client-focused and collaborative group, the CFO and the Financial Services team are guided by principles of transparency and accountability in their endeavour to:

  • Provide financial leadership and proactive analysis and solutions;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and develop efficient and effective processes and procedures;
  • Deliver support services that enable faculty, researchers and staff to achieve the university’s goals and objectives in support of our students; and
  • Manage the financial internal control environment, including regulatory compliance and overall financial health and risk of the university.

About Joanne

With over 25 years of experience in higher education, Joanne McKee leads TMU’s Financial Services department as the chief financial officer. 

Prior to joining Toronto Metropolitan University in 2015, Joanne worked at Wilfrid Laurier University as assistant vice-president, financial resources; at Brock University as associate vice-president, finance; and at Niagara College as the director of financial services. 

Joanne is a graduate of Brock University’s accounting co-op program with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BAdmin) and has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Niagara University. She holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (CA) designations. Joanne is active within the higher education sector and has served in many volunteer leadership roles; she is currently a member of the Council of Ontario Finance Officers (COFO) and the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO). 

Joanne has been recognized for her support and contributions to higher education, receiving the COFO Distinguished Leadership Award in 2011 and 2019. She has also been recognized as the Brock University’ 2017 Goodman School of Business Distinguished Graduate and the 2019 CAUBO Ken Clements Award, which recognizes an administrator who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and has made an extraordinary contribution to the advancement of higher education administration.
