Members of the Employees with Disabilities Community Network.

In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Wellbeing Week, you’re invited to join a screening of “Across the Universe-City”, a short film created by the Employees with Disabilities Community Network (EwDCN) in partnership with TMU’s own Cyrus Sunder-Singh. This event is hosted by the EwDCN and the Accessibility unit in the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI). After the screening, participate in a Q&A with the film’s creators.

What to expect

Our session will explore the experiences of employees with disabilities and inclusive employment practices by viewing a short film, "Across the Universe-City". The session will:

  • raise awareness about the diversity of our experiences as employees with disabilities
  • highlight some of the barriers we face and the impacts of ableism
  • outline the importance of fostering an inclusive workplace environment to challenge ableism, promote accessibility and cultivate community collaboration

After the screening, there will be a Q&A with a panel of employees involved in the film’s creation. Attendees will leave the session with a deeper understanding of the need for inclusive employment practices, the importance of community engagement and the shared responsibility in fostering an accessible and inclusive workplace. Through this engaging and informative discussion, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own roles in creating a more inclusive environment and consider steps they can take to support employees with disabilities in their own areas of responsibility.

This event is open to all TMU community members as well as the general public.

Registration is encouraged.

This event is part of Wellbeing Week in honour of National Disability Employment Awareness Month

This event is being hosted during Wellbeing Week in honour of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This event is dedicated to ongoing dialogue on mental health and well-being while promoting programs and services available to the TMU community. During this week, we will highlight initiatives designed for students, faculty, and staff to advance our individual and collective wellbeing on campus.

The intent of the week is to celebrate, promote, and protect the well-being of the diverse community we have at TMU; increase awareness of resources for all our community members to support their well-being; and provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in conversations related to well-being on campus.

This event is wheelchair accessible and live captioning and ASL interpretation will be provided

The university is committed to the accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities. If you require any additional accessibility accommodations to ensure your full participation, please let us know on the registration form or email Heather Willis, Accessibility Coordinator, OVPECI, at hwillis@torontomu.ca or
Sricamalan Pathmanathan, Co-chair of EwDCN, at pathmana@torontomu.ca.
