A person practicing with their arms outstretched, moving their body as they breathe.

In a period marked by increasing geopolitical tensions and conflict, the body can become a site of stress and trauma but also empowerment.

In collaboration with Community Wellbeing and Athletics and Recreation, the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI) invites you to join us for a powerful exploration of how nervous system regulation, somatic awareness and embodied learning can be a powerful tool to support us during periods of global instability, helping us to reconnect with ourselves and each other in meaningful ways.

What to expect

Danielle Smith will offer insights into how embodied learning can lead to healing and empowerment.

Participants will be invited to delve into:

  • practices that connect the mind and body and foster a deeper awareness of how global events impact our physical and emotional states;
  • practices that will cultivate a greater sense of nervous system responses, regulatory flexibility and autonomy, and,
  • care for ourselves and each other.

This event is open to anyone interested in exploring how the body and mind are impacted during periods of instability. We will explore how to listen to the body's signals, recognize the effects of stress and trauma, and develop strategies for grounding and self-regulation.

Danielle Smith is a kinesthetic learner and student of life. They understand that internal physiological and external structural factors impact the body, which holds a deep innate wisdom and resilience toward healing.

Through a harm-reduction framework and creating as much safety as possible, a trauma-informed approach and healing-centered focus are integrated into Danielle’s work.
